James P. Dworkin-Valenti proudly reclaimed his birth name (Valenti) four years ago; a long overdue decision. For many academic purposes he uses this hyphenated surname for recognition. Dr. Valenti obtained his Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1975, concentrating his research on speech pathophysiology. Three years later he completed post-doctoral training at the Mayo Clinic in the Department of Neurology, focusing on the study of Neurogenic Communication Disorders and Vocal Pathologies. To his credit, he has written 5 textbooks, more than 100 scientific journal articles, more than 100 national conference abstracts, and numerous book chapters. He has worked at the Detroit Medical center for the past 27 years, and currently serves as Adjunct Professor and Director of Clinical Research for the residency program in the Department of Otolaryngology at this institution, in cooperation with Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
