Maria Piagkou (DDS, MD, MSc in forensic medicine and toxicology, PhD in anatomy) is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and is currently working as an assistant professor at the Department of Anatomy and Surgical Anatomy, School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). She has nineteen years of teaching activity in the field of anatomy, focused on head and neck, neuroanatomy, oral and maxillofacial area. Her main areas of interest are head and neck anatomy and surgery, skull base anatomy, oral surgery, maxillofacial and dental trauma and rehabilitation, intraoral fixation after condylar fractures and teeth replantation. She authored 8 chapters in neuroanatomy and oral and maxillofacial surgery and thoracic surgery books, 2 monographs and edited the translation in 7 books. She is reviewer in 24 international scientific journals. Dr. Piagkou authored 90 publications in PubMed, 97 abstracts in 30 international congresses and 350 abstracts in Greek scientific meetings. She is a member of the Sports Medicine Association of Greece. She speaks English, French and Italian.
