I completed the Degree in Biology, research branch, at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, in 2009. Still, during my degree, I did an internship at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, within the scope of Cellular and Molecular Biology. In 2009, I joined the Institute of Pathology and Molecular Immunology (IPATIMUP), along with the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, to start the Master in Forensic Genetics, completed in 2011. In 2012, I did a non-curricular stay at the Institute of Legal Medicine of Porto, currently the Northern Delegation of the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, IP. In 2013, I have started at the Faculty of Medicine of the Complutense University of Madrid a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, being at this point about to defend my doctoral thesis in Forensic Genetics. I have defended my Ph.D. thesis in 2020, with the A+ "Cum Laude". I teach in different theoretical and / or practical courses organized by the Group of Forensic and Population Genetics, in the Department of Forensic Medicine, Psychiatry and Pathology, at the Faculty of Medicine of the Complutense University of Madrid. Now, I am a forensic and population genetics investigator, specialized in very degraded biological samples. I have been studying human remains, adults or neonates, with different antiquity and degradation stages, from Neolithic (5000 B.C) until contemporaneous biological samples. Kinship analysis is my first line of investigation, being specialized on X-chromosome and autosomal markers, as well as mitochondrial DNA.
Research Interest: Forensic Biology, forensic genetics, population genetics, ancient DNA
Grants: Predoctoral Grant (Universidad Complutense de Madrid – Banco Santander. G/6401400/8000)
