Professor Richard Hogston is an experienced academic nurse executive leader with proven successes at a national and local level in professional health care education, regulation, quality, policy and management of change. Richard joined Leeds Beckett University in 2004 from the University of Hull and was formerly Nursing Officer for Education and Training at the Department of Health (DoH).

Professor Richard Hogston's eclectic career has spanned clinical practice, professional education, Policy advice as a civil servant in the Department of Health and more recently senior roles as an academic. In the Department of Health he was the UK government health departments' representative on the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting. He was responsible for establishing the major contracts between the DoH and the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) and led the education section in the Nursing Strategy 'Making a difference' which led to the national reforms in nurse education.

At Leeds Beckett University he has held senior roles as Faculty Dean and Director of Research where he led the Public Health submission (unit 2A) in the 2014 Research Excellence framework. He is currently working with the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Enterprise) on a new University Research Strategy.
